Snow Patrol
Today,
Gary Lightbody, Paul Wilson, Jonny Quinn, Nathan Connolly, and Tom Simpson
create a unique and authentic sound under the name of Snow Patrol. Snow
Patrol is classified as an alternative Rock or Indie Rock band; however,
there rock style is similar to many American bands a few years back
Gary
Lightbody, guitarist and Mark McClelland, keyboardist began the band in
1994 while they were going to college in Dundee Scotland. These two boys
from Northern Ireland had a dream of introducing their own sound and they
have. In the early days, the band was known as Shrug and they played at
the Dundee University and other pubs locally.
In 1995,
they changed their name to Polarbear. Their first three track EP was
released in 1997 under the title Starfighter Pilot with the label Electric
Honey. An American Band also had the same name for their band, thus they
changed their name once again, and this time to the name, we all know Snow
Patrol.
Under
the name Snow Patrol, they released an EP on Jeepster Records by the title
of Little Hide, in addition to a few singles such as One Hundred Things
You Should Have Done in Bed.
Their real fame
began once they were interviewed on MTV even though the main interview was
centered around Jeepster instead of the music, in 1998. Two more albums
were released under the Jeepster label, which were Songs For Polarbears in
1998 and When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up in 2001.
Jeepster
dropped the group and they signed with the mainstream label Polydor. From
here, success was in the bag. Their song, Run debuted at #5 on the UK
singles chart, the album Final Straw hit #3 on the UK albums chart and
three other singles reached the top 30.
In 2004, Final
Straw was released in the US and in December 2005, they released their
album Eyes Open. Many things have stopped Snow Patrol from a complete tour
in the US, from polyps on Lightbody's vocal chords to the threat of
terrorist attacks on US bound flights from the UK. |
